4 Must-Haves to Stay Fresh this Summer
June 4th, 2015
Festival, open-air concert and terrasse season is (finally) here!!! And I don't know about you, but I already feel like I'm never home: between drinks on terrasses, shows downtown and barbecues with friends, these days, my purse is also kind of my wardrobe, my mini-bar and, you guessed it, my bathroom! That's right, because I'm busy running everywhere, it sometimes (okay, okay, always) happens that I don't feel so... fresh. :S So today I come to you with my must-haves in my little freshness kit that follows me everywhere in the summer, coming to my rescue in more situations than I care to count!
Situation #1: I just rode from the Old Port to Mile-End by Bixi (*** uphill?!)
(in other words, my gorgeous mane has become a little matted down)
No need to panic! Nothing a little dry shampoo can't rectify and you're good to go. Even if I'm a big fan of the one from Lush (their choice of natural products and their commitment to sustainable development is a big bonus), its format isn't super convenient for these out-on-the-town situations. For my freshness kit, I have adopted Klorane's aerosol format: just as natural but more practical: 2 small pschittt and voilà!
Available in the pharmacy – around $11,99
Situation #2: I have a bite on a terrasse in the sun for two hours (why do I love spicy foods so much?!?)
(translation: my face is beyond sweaty and I'm all flushed)
No problem! I just whip out my thermal water spray and with one little pschittt (I may want to think about re-dubbing my kit "pschitt" you know) and I go from "sweaty" (imagine Bridget Jones at the gym) to "dewy" (imagine Sofia Vergara by the sea or at the foot of a waterfall)… Now what? Basically, it's the ideal solution if you're in dire need of some instant refreshing! :P
Available in pharmacies – around $10 depending on the brand.
Situation #3: I just got down and dirty in a beach-volleyball game while at a picnic with friends
(in other words, my underarms and crotch are kind of sweaty and stinky)
Let's just say that the park is a cool place, but when it comes to going to the washroom to freshen up, cool is not the word that comes to mind. I always seem to arrive when the toilet paper is out and/or the soap dispenser is empty. Grrrrr! So I always make sure I have some feminine wipes on me. And my brand of choice is always Incognito: they're individually wrapped, hypoallergenic, biodegradable (so I can flush them worry-free) and perfect for freshening the armpits, the crotch and, in a pinch, they can be used to wash the hands! In other words, this is THE must-have no matter where you go and ESPECIALLY if you're even thinking of heading to Osheaga! The Port-o-potties left me with a memory much worse than any horror movie! ;)
Available in pharmacies – around $3,99 a pack of 20 wipes.
Situation #4: Dying of thirst
(In other words, I'm dying of thirst. Period.)
This is a cool little addition I added recently. I always thought that water was THE most hydrating, thirst-quenching beverage. But that was long before I had discovered the benefits of coconut water! Basically, coconut water contains electrolytes and other wonderful things designed to help our bodies to hydrate AND lower its temperature. Among all the benefits, it also helps to reduce the risks of urinary tract infections – double YAY! Knowing it’s very good and very low in sugar, I now always have a small bottle in my purse!
Available everywhere (convenience stores, supermarkets, pharmacies) – between $2 and $4 for a 50 ml bottle.
Do you also have a "coolness" product you always have on you in the summer?
