Ovulation: Fertile window

Your fertile window occurs in the four or five days around ovulation – this happens between the 12th and 16th day before the first day of your next period. The egg can be fertilized in the 24 hours following ovulation. Although the egg is only viable for about 24 hours, sperm can live up to five days in a woman’s body. This explains why a baby can be conceived when a couple has sexual intercourse four or five days before ovulation.
